** Description changed: This appears to be new in Ubuntu 10.10. I did not experience this problem in Ubuntu 10.04. At first, I thought USB audio input was not working at all. My device (Logitech, Inc. QuickCam E 3500 046d:09a4) was detected fine in Sound Preferences, but speaking into the mic had no effect on the input level indicator. The input volume was set at 100%. I booted into the Live CD and there the mic appeared to work. I noticed the input volume was set below 100%. I booted into my Ubuntu installation, set the input volume to below 100% and the mic began to function properly. I use Skype to communicate with friends & family. Skype has an option to "Allow Skype to automatically adjust my mixer levels". This is on by default and sets the input volume to 100% in my case, causing this bug to rear its ugly head. Turning the option off in Skype fixes the problem, but without the automatic adjustment Skype's ability to reduce the feedback from the speakers seems to be disabled. Skype becomes unusable unless I use a pair of headphones. This bug does not appear to affect non-USB mics. + --- + AlsaVersion: Advanced Linux Sound Architecture Driver Version 1.0.23. + Architecture: amd64 + AudioDevicesInUse: + USER PID ACCESS COMMAND + /dev/snd/controlC1: alesh 1588 F.... pulseaudio + /dev/snd/controlC0: alesh 1588 F.... pulseaudio + Card0.Amixer.info: + Card hw:0 'SB'/'HDA ATI SB at 0xf9ff4000 irq 16' + Mixer name : 'Realtek ALC662 rev1' + Components : 'HDA:10ec0662,15650000,00100101' + Controls : 26 + Simple ctrls : 15 + Card1.Amixer.info: + Card hw:1 'U0x46d0x9a4'/'USB Device 0x46d:0x9a4 at usb-0000:00:12.2-4, high speed' + Mixer name : 'USB Mixer' + Components : 'USB046d:09a4' + Controls : 2 + Simple ctrls : 1 + Card1.Amixer.values: + Simple mixer control 'Mic',0 + Capabilities: cvolume cvolume-joined cswitch cswitch-joined penum + Capture channels: Mono + Limits: Capture 0 - 14 + Mono: Capture 0 [0%] [23.00dB] [on] + DistroRelease: Ubuntu 10.10 + InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 10.10 "Maverick Meerkat" - Release amd64 (20101007) + NonfreeKernelModules: nvidia + Package: alsa-base 1.0.23+dfsg-1ubuntu4 + PackageArchitecture: all + ProcEnviron: + LANG=en_US.utf8 + SHELL=/bin/bash + ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 2.6.35-22.34-generic 2.6.35.4 + Tags: maverick + Uname: Linux 2.6.35-22-generic x86_64 + UserGroups: adm admin cdrom dialout lpadmin plugdev sambashare + dmi.bios.date: 01/14/2009 + dmi.bios.vendor: American Megatrends Inc. + dmi.bios.version: 080014 + dmi.board.asset.tag: To Be Filled By O.E.M. + dmi.board.name: TA780G M2+ + dmi.board.vendor: BIOSTAR Group + dmi.chassis.asset.tag: None + dmi.chassis.type: 3 + dmi.chassis.vendor: BIOSTAR Group + dmi.modalias: dmi:bvnAmericanMegatrendsInc.:bvr080014:bd01/14/2009:svnBIOSTARGroup:pnTA780GM2+:pvr:rvnBIOSTARGroup:rnTA780GM2+:rvr:cvnBIOSTARGroup:ct3:cvr: + dmi.product.name: TA780G M2+ + dmi.sys.vendor: BIOSTAR Group ** Attachment added: "AlsaDevices.txt" https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/bugs/661564/+attachment/1699408/+files/AlsaDevices.txt -- USB audio input stops working when volume set to 100% or greater in Sound Preferences https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/661564 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
