Could you try with the current mainline kernel:
Download the two *i386.deb and the *all.deb from 
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/daily/current/
Install all 3 by double clicking

reboot (it might be a good idea to do an altgr+sysRq+S to force the disk
to sync before you do something expected to freeze the computer)

boot into the newly installed kernel. You might have to hold the shift
key down after switching on to get to select the kernel in grub.
