I have exactly the same problem with Intel HD graphics and core i5-650 processor. Freezes sometimes, same error messages. I had to switch to Xrender. With Xrender, there is no more freezes, but all opengl-related effects are disabled :(.
I installed the final version of Kubuntu Maverick from scratch, and the problem remains.
