I problem has gone away. I am not sure how it happened or why it was
fixed. I installed and then uninstalled some new software "PlayonLinux,
iTunes, and MS Office 97/2000". None of it worked right so I uninstalled
it, then my top menu completely disapeared. I had to power off to
shutdown. Then the next time I rebooted everything was fine and has been
fine ever since. I've rebooted several times and run many different
programs since to test. That happened over the weekend, gnome-panel no
longer has a white block.

Thank you,
Thomas

Status in “gnome-panel” package in Ubuntu: Incomplete

Bug description:
Binary package hint: gnome-panel

I am using Ubuntu 10.04 LTS and my gnome-panel has white block on it.
Sometimes it covers the network monitor, other times it covers the
weather applet. I can still control the menu as usual it just has a
white block over it.
