I have found a workaround to let it work on a docking station. - Place the laptop in the docking station - startup. External screen will show the startup screens until X (kdm) starts. Then it goes black. - Open the laptop and change screen (Function-F8) - On the laptop now a jumbled screen is seen. - Change screen again. Now the external screen shows the mess. - Restart X (CTRL-ALT-BACKSPACE) - Works fine now on external monitor
