Thanks for responding to this.

I had actually forgotten all about this and have, meantime, upgraded to
a new computer and to 10.04 (although NOT because of MIRO).

And, of course, now MIRO works just fine.  Well except for the "file not
found" errors I get from it with monotonous regularity.
