Well, "technically speaking" we (as in Ubuntu) shouldn't fix it.  A
driver should be developed and pushed into mainline, THEN it can be
included in Ubuntu kernels, either through backporting or new releases.
I'm not saying that someone that works on Ubuntu kernels can't fix it,
just the proper route it should take for release.
