@Andrew Montgomery: I don't know about 10.04 but I upgraded to 10.10 and the fix I installed (see 2010-08-23 above) continued to work AOK (or else the new version fixed it). The kernel was updated yesterday from 2.6.32-25 to 2.6.35-22 and it's still AOK.
