Well, the problems is slightly more complicated, methinks: I am booting
vmlinuz-2.6.15-26-amd64-k8 (and former ubuntu-kernels) just fine
*without* the delay. I noticed the delay when I upgraded to a vanilla
2.6.17. I traced it back to a single kernel-patch introduced in the
2.6.14->2.6.15 development (http://lkml.org/lkml/2006/7/12/308), but Kay
said that it's not kernel but init-script related....

When I comment out the "Loading hardware drivers..." it seems to go
away, but then no hw-drivers are loaded. But I have to reproduce this
one for a current kernel...
