** Description changed:

When I boot up from the ubuntu 10.04 alpha 3 live cd the screen goes
blank after clicking "try ubuntu without installing". This also happens
when I try to boot after installing. I believe this has something to do
with the switch to nouveau as the default video driver for nvidia chips
because I have the same problem when trying to boot Fedora, which uses
nouveau by default as well. Booting 9.10 and earlier causes no problems
except I have to adjust the screen resolution each time I boot up. I
have a nvidia Geforce 6200 video card and am using a 2003 HP desktop
attached to a 42'' LCD monitor (TV really).
