Apologies that this has taken so long to get around to looking at.

Can you provide the fstab line you are using so that we can attempt to
reproduce this error?

Also, in lucid and maverick the mountall-net.conf file actually gets
called whenever a network device comes up, so the mount should be
reattempted at that point. I am thinking that its likely there is just a
timeout issue going on and instead of retrying after timeout, it is just
allowed to fail.
