I don't believe that problem in Dapper is related to recent security update.
Read for example this post

also mentioned in bug report 26572. in any case, we need to know the version of
k3b and kernel currently installed in your Dapper system.
I suggest to install K3b 0.12.17 from Dapper backports, since versions >
0.12.15 claim to fix freeze problem.
Regarding Feisty I suggest to perform a full update of your system. If
the problem persists, please specify k3b and kernel version.
