Hi, I've encountered this problem on a fresh install Maverick on my
  Inspiron R14.

  Pulseaudio sees no hardware devices.

lshw -C sound output is as follows.

    *-multimedia UNCLAIMED
         description: Audio device
product: 5 Series/3400 Series Chipset High Definition Audio
         vendor: Intel Corporation
         physical id: 1b
         bus info: p...@0000:00:1b.0
         version: 06
         width: 64 bits
         clock: 33MHz
         capabilities: pm msi pciexpress cap_list
         configuration: latency=0
         resources: memory:f0600000-f0603fff

I've tried purge and reinstall on alsa-base and linux-sound-base several
  times.

  Installing oss also fails.

I've tried messing around with the model parameter on snd-hda-intel a
bit. But no luck. Any suggestions?
