Hello,

In Ubuntu, "pm-utils is responsible for getting the system into a state
where it can be suspended or hibernated, and handling any cleanup after
resume." So it definitely has to be installed on your system for
suspend/hibernate to work. I have it installed on my machine, that first
was a Maverick beta and then was upgraded to the final release.

So the problem sounds like a bad installation on your machine. Perhaps
something went wrong during the installation/upgrade, or the media you
used had defects.

I'll mark this issue as invalid, because It seems not possible for you
to perform the installation again and get to the same state. So this
problem is not going to be reproducible and the developers are not going
to be able to get the information they required to fix it.

However, if you or someone else manage to install the system again and
it doesn't have pm-utils, it will be really useful for us if you reopen
the bug and add any information you might find useful.

Thanks again for reporting your problem.
