I am experiencing the same thing on another machine I upgraded (perhaps I should stop doing that ;) ).
Here is a clarification that will help narrow down the issue: when I "upgrade" I meant installed the latest 10.10 from scratch onto a machine that previously had 10.04. I effectively formatted the existing partitions except /home. I have another machine that I upgraded by using the update manager to update to the latest release. The two machines on which I installed a fresh copy of 10.10 on top of 10.04 have the problem. The machine on which I upgraded using the update manager does not have the problem. My guess is that it has something to do with some 10.04 account files remaining in the /home partition that is causing the permission system to assume the previous user's id/gid instead of the newly installed user. In both cases, I instructed the fresh 10.10 installed to re-use the existing home directory in the /home partition. I did not change the user name when installing 10.10. -- update-manager silently fails when clicking "Install Updates". https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/665224 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
