Yes, I just rechecked on a fairly fresh install of 10.10

Old Results:
1. "sudo apt-get install oxygen-cursor-theme"
2. {maybe reboot, I don't remember at this point}
3. oxygen-cursor-theme gets used as it is the auto default due to priority

10.04/10.10
1. "sudo apt-get install oxygen-cursor-theme"
2. reboot
3. still using DMZ-White
4. go to Appearance and customize theme to use Default Cursor
5. reboot
6. still using DMZ-White
7. run "sudo update-alternatives --config x-cursor-theme"
8. oxygen-white will be selected as the auto default but reselect as "0"
9. then oxygen-white will work as the default

Now maybe it shouldn't automatically become the default, but perhaps
like installing gdm/kdm, when you install a new cursor theme (at least
from the repos), it should ask what you want to make the default.
