Yes, the stock 2.6.36 kernel (which is in the weekly builds linked to in comment #358), has a patch to improve responsiveness (this is from http://kernelnewbies.org/Linux_2_6_36):
1.7. Improve VM-related desktop responsiveness There are some cases where a desktop system could be really unresponsive while doing things such as writing to a very slow USB storage device and some memory pressure. This release includes a small patch that improves the VM heuristics to solve this problem. ie it helps improve responsiveness for a particular case. FWIW, I haven't noticed any major desktop slowdowns on my system with 2.6.36 over the last 6 days. -- Heavy Disk I/O harms desktop responsiveness https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/131094 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
