I have been experiencing a similar but, am using an athlon 64M 3800+ and
using a belkin usb card. Previous versions I never had a problem with
until I did a kernel upgrade. My last ditch to fix the problem was
installing WicD. It experienced the same problems until I altered one
of the WicDs' conf. files so it wouldn't load the Dbus. This seems to
be working fine, I've had a solid connection for over an hour. Don't
know why that worked, but wudevvea.
