Over the last releases, syntax and search highlighting in terminals,
vim, gedit, emacs, etc has been improved more and more and is switched
on by default. This bug report is to consolidate the current default
state of search highlighting in vim compared to other previously named
applications.

To have vim adhere to the convention Ubuntu is following, would result
that this is a small bug which should be fixed and is not a personal
preference. It would really help (by default) finding search results, as
is already offered to the users by other applications.

In Maverick, users don't need .vimrc to start working with vim out of
the box and experience lots of handy colours, only not yet in search
search lighting.

Please reconsider and let other Ubuntu command line highlighting gurus
comment on this.
