Public bug reported: Hi.
I would just like to inform you that I discovered a severe bug in the MySQL server version 5.1.49, which is included in Ubuntu 10.10, Maverick Meerkat. The severity of the bug should be apparent by studying the attached file, which only sets up a simple table configuration and performs some simple queries that work OK against MySQL server 5.1.41, as shipped with Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx, but not with versions 5.1.49 (Maverick Meerkat) and 5.1.51 (latest available source release from MySQL). I have already filed a bug report at MySQL, http://bugs.mysql.com/bug.php?id=57795 , and they have verified it. I do not wish to duplicate the whole bug report here; I only report it here because the bug is potentially disastrous to systems that rely on MySQL as a consistent database. In my MySQL bug report, I also present a possible workaround for Ubuntu users, based on downgrading to the mysql-server-5.1 packages shipped with Lucid Lynx.
