Hello, thanks for your assistance.

I am using Ubuntu software center which I understand is like the GDebi
package installer. It is the option the OS gives me.

I looked into the page you recommend, but I got this kernel version in
my machine: 2.6.35-22-generic-pae; and in the page the most recent one
is 2.6.31.17.

Should I try to use that one? Can you tell me how to install it by
command line?

When I first installed Ubuntu 10.10, the laptop speakers worked but not
the earphones. I executed some commands that I found on certain forums,
and now the sound card is not even detected. Nothing works. Is there a
way to make the system recognize the sound card again?

My chipset is Mobile IntelĀ® HM55 Express Chipset.

Thanks and regards.

Francisco
