Subject: [Bug 669351] Re: [ICH - Intel 82801BA-ICH2] ALSA test tone not
correctly played back

Are you saying that, on this machine, sound has been audible before in a
prior install of 10.04.1?

Two mixer controls are relevant for this symptom on your codec (AD1885):

Simple mixer control 'Headphone Jack Sense',0
  Capabilities: pswitch pswitch-joined penum
  Playback channels: Mono
  Mono: Playback [off] <---

Simple mixer control 'External Amplifier',0
  Capabilities: pswitch pswitch-joined penum
  Playback channels: Mono
  Mono: Playback [on] <---

First, try muting External Amplifier. If that doesn't resolve the
issue, unmute External Amplifier again and unmute Headphone Jack Sense
(which is only supposed to toggle internally when headphones are
inserted, but on your codec this could be incorrect due to a variety of
reasons).
