Reassigned against grub then, this is where zz-update-grub comes from. The script calls update-grub which calls grub-mkconfig where the sed call that fails seems to be situated in. Can you run this script again with -x, like $ sudo sh -x /usr/sbin/grub-mkconfig -o /tmp/grub.cfg and see if it fails?
