It's not totally clear whether you tried to set language from the
language-selector UI or from the language picker on the login screen.
Anyway, since ~/.profile was missing, I'd like to mention that extensive
code reorganization was made after v. 0.5.8. At least the current
language-selector code should create ~/.profile if it does not exist. As
regards language setting from the login screen, new code is about to be
committed that changes the behavior.
Could you please check the behavior in Maverick (or Natty), and let us
know if the bug is still valid?
