This is totally a cosmetic item. When synaptic is called for the first
time after installation it displays a dialogue about wanting to be
reminded of something or other. It then displays the words "rebuilding
the ... index" Since the index has never been build, this being the
first call on the package, the "re" should be omitted. I realise in a
multilingual system such as this, bad grammar does fall though the
cracks, but since there is a very large English speaking community, I
think we should take special care to get it right. The days of
accepting computer geekery are past.
