Ok, I have added more details.

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: network-manager

Currently using Ubuntu 10.10 which was upgraded from 10.04 online.

  Package having problem : network-manager
  0.8.1+git.20100810t184654.ab580f4-0ubuntu2

  Description:
When I was using Lucid, network manager applet automatically detected any usb
modem devices and made it ready for connection. After upgrade to Maverick,
sometimes the devices are not at all detected. Some times after a restart, when
I plug the usb and wait for around five minutes, it gets detected. There are no
problems in connecting.
+
+ I tried using many devices. One Nokia E51, one Huawei EC1262 modem etc. All
resulted the same.
+ this is what i got using lsusb for my Nokia E51.
+ as...@ashok-laptop:~$ lsusb

+
+ Another thing I noticed is, its a bit complicated,
+ When i turn on my computer with the device already connected, then the
network-manager never detects the device even after I take it back and plug it
again.
+ And, when I turn computer on without the device and then I connect the
device, then it takes somewhat 2 minutes to detect it.
+ But wireless networks are detected instantly under all conditions.
