I have installed Maverick and still have the same issue (Asus K50AD). It seems that some current updates have broken this altogether (at least for me) since my headphones are not working at all. Previously I've managed to get them to work using alsamixer by setting the Front value to 100 after plugging the headphones in. I installed David's package, but nothing happens when I plug/unplug the headphones.
