No! it does not. There are several things going on here but there is
definitely a problem beyond Compiz.
>From a fresh install of Feisty last night, and then applying all updates
this is what I experience...
1. nVidia is loaded with restricted drivers:
linux-restricted-modules-2.6.20-12-generic
2. Click on System - Admin - Restricted Drivers Manager
it reports that "Your hardware does not need any restricted drivers."
So why are they shown as loaded in Synaptic?
3. Click on System - Prefs - Desktop Effects
Button is clickable and when you do click it screen goes white.
(Escape pulls you back.)
I honestly believe that this is happening due to the correct nVidia
drivers being selected for the hardware, but since this once worked on
this machine in Herd5, I think it needs to be fixed.
If anyone wants me to try a fix just email me as I have a fresh beta
installed on a HD which will remain pristine for the sole purpose of
fixing this bug.
PS. I am running on a Dell Latitude D800 with nVidia Corporation NV28
[GeForce4 Ti 4200 Go AGP. The xorg.conf shows driver as "nv".
(my xorg.conf is attached.) Please open this bug back up.
