Dear Mr. Henningsson and all,
I finally got around to doing the above. In addition, I can no longer
run alsaconf, and the alsa-utils is not found even though there, along
with half the other alsa files. Pulsaudio is unable to initialize, but
I do not know if this is because of your prior post to this. I did try
re-installing pulse audio as well.
Basically same problem, the cards are there, but are no loaded, and I
can not find them under /dev/**** but they seem to be there under
/sys/devices/pci0000:00 and pci0000.ff
