Thanks for confirming in maverick. Use evest to test whether the exist
in kernel or not. For help on that refer to the document here

in VT
$ evtest {input device}

I have an emachines m2350 and use gnome/compiz on a fresh install of

While moving a window with the touchpad the pointer will appear and be stuck
in the top left corner of the screen.
A workaround is to use a USB mouse.

the mouse pointer jumps to X root:(0,0), i.e., the upper-left corner of screen,
and trying to move the pointer is futile thereafter.

+ and can be moved again.
