Running `tar --help` shows that running `tar --lzma` does not produce a lzma archive but a xz archive, the tarfiles produced are easily decompressible with unxz. AFAIK xz is ment to replace lzma, so perhaps they kept the switch for backwards compatibility with old scripts?
