I just plugged in on another PC (Dapper, Linux 2.6.15-28-686 #1 SMP PREEMPT Thu Feb 1 16:14:07 UTC 2007 i686 GNU/Linux) and here everything works fine. I can mount the exact same device without any trouble, so it must be something in the newer kernel.
