Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: synaptic

Description: Ubuntu 10.10
Release: 10.10

synaptic:
  Installed: 0.63.1ubuntu14
  Candidate: 0.63.1ubuntu14
  Version table:
 *** 0.63.1ubuntu14 0
        500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ maverick/main amd64 Packages
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

Expected: With the "Delete downloaded packages after installation"
option enabled in Settings -> Preferences -> Files tab -> Temporary
Files, the packages in /var/cache/apt/archives are deleted after
installation from Synaptic, Update Manager, and Software Center.

Actually Happens: Packages remain in /var/cache/apt/archives after
installation. Clicking Apply on the Temporary Files dialog does clean
the packages, but not after installation of packages like expected.
