Public bug reported:

When upgrading to natty amd64 desktop today, the new 2.6.37-2 kernel
does not actually work. This is what update-grub outputs:

de...@delan:~$ sudo update-grub
[sudo] password for delan:
Searching for GRUB installation directory ... found: /boot/grub
Searching for default file ... found: /boot/grub/default
Testing for an existing GRUB menu.lst file ... found: /boot/grub/menu.lst
Searching for splash image ... none found, skipping ...
Ignoring Xen kernel on non-Xen host: vmlinuz-2.6.37-2-generic
Found kernel: /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.37-rc1+
Found kernel: /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.35-23-generic
Found kernel: /boot/memtest86+.bin
Updating /boot/grub/menu.lst ... done

Please note that 2.6.37-rc1+ is a git kernel that I built myself in
maverick and I'm currently running now.
