OK, installed alsa-driver-modules, then ran AlsaInfo and that file is
attached.
If I misunderstood the sequence, let me know. Even after reinstalling
(there were some already there of course; I let Synaptic package manager
sort it out) alsa, still get no sound after BIOS beep, FYI.
