The command made metacity the default window manager instead of compiz.
Compiz is having difficulty getting along with intel video cards. As i
thought, this is a duplicate of bug #664265
Hopefully they will be fixing it ASAP. Thanks for reporting. Marking
as duplicate.
PS: To make the effect permanent you need to disable the "effects" in
ubuntu. Otherwise you will have the same problem when you reboot the
machine.
Right click the desktop> Change desktop background> Go to the visual
effects tab and select none.
