Hi Nicola, I don't think the new syncdaemon (which is not ready yet) will be available for older versions of Ubuntu. The older versions of Ubuntu will only accepts fixes for bugs, this issue (despite not being minor) is not a bug fix but a performance issue.
The fixes will be available in Natty and above.
