Chuck,
The database is definitely not corrupt until the upgrade is
processed. The database is very static, and I have done previous updates
with no problem. Once I fix the database ( again it doesn't become
corrupt until the upgrade ), I am able to use it as I had previously. If
I go to update again, I get the same issue with the upgrade.
