Hi Alex As far as I can tell so far this has only happened with sites through the proxy - but basically everything goes through it when I am at school (local pages work fine though)
I'll try the safe mode idea once I get back to school tomorrow... Yes you are correct - the UI does simply freeze. It has happened that I have just given up and quit because it is taking so long to stop, but that has been with a lot of tabs open... I'll get back to you on the safe mode as soon I get a chance.
