I think it should generally not be possible for FUSE to lock processes like this.
One thing I did to improve the situation was to reduce the ssh timeout: echo ServerAliveInterval 30 >> ~/.ssh/config But I think in my case usually the ssh connection is really hung (though the network connection stands without a problem).
