Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: coreutils

This is a follow-up to [Bug 675613], where "dpkg" stalled attempting to
sync() and the "sync" binary then stalled when run manually. A similar
problem occurred on the same machine when my backup script ran the
"sync" binary. This machine has beebn running normally since upgraded to
64-bit Ubuntu 10.04, and these errors have only occurred recently. The
problem is unlikely to be in "coreutils", because "dpkg" does not run
the "sync" binary. However, the "sync" binary and "dpkg" have both
stalled attempting to sync() the filesystem.
