This also affects the N145 on out-of-the-box Ubuntu 10.10. I had to use the following steps to get Ubuntu working well on my N145: http://twistedpairdevelopment.wordpress.com/2010/11/16/installing-ubuntu-on-a-samsung-n145-and-possibly-others/
The keyboard locking can simply be solved by adding "*N145*" to the "/lib/udev/rules.d/95-keyboard-force-release.rules" file. Getting the brightness to actually function required Voria's PPA.
