Hi, I'm a developer from Canonical asked to look at this issue for you.

It's not clear exactly what problem you are needing solved.

As I understand it your main problem is you can't read and edit
addresses in the /home/user/.kde/share/apps/kabc/std.vcf file with
KAddressBook.

You can add an address book to KAddressBook to get access to it:
File->New->Add Address Book
KDE Address Book (traditional) -> OK
Next
File -> Next
Type in the location in the Location field -> Next
Set a name -> Finish

You should now be able to read and edit addresses in the file you
selected.

If that does not solve your problem, are you able to create and edit
addresses in the Personal Contacts addressbook? This would indicate if
Akonadi is working (which KAddressBook will need to function). There is
a longstanding but in KDE PIM 4.4 that it can start before Akonadi is
ready, this should be indicated with an obvious red X icon, in this case
you will need to close and restart KAddressBook or Kontact.
