Interestingly, if only the TrackPoint has failed and the keyboard and trackpad are still working correctly, unloading and reloading the 'psmouse' module will solve it.
However, if the trackpad and/or keyboard are nonresponsive, unloading psmouse will hang and then you're really stuck.
