On some machines, xscreensaver (and, for that matter, KDE's screensaver) doesn't seem to play nice with DPMS. Submitting a bug-report on a 2-year old release would be rather pointless. Also, would be nice to have all the latest hacks. In addition, the API has changed somewhat.
Incidentally, the version number in the package (from Help->About) says 4.24, 21 Oct 2005.
