Dear Dan, I was able to get it working. I guess I'm experiencing a learning curve with Linux and this Ubuntu. What I lack in real expertise, I make up for in persistence. I noticed some options in the Synaptic Package Manager such as the "uninstall everything option" and I got rid of the RealPlayer and completely removed the Rhythm box. I then re-installed the Rhythm Box and it still didn't work so I went back to the Snaptic Package Manager and installed a bunch of Rhythm box related files which were not included when I downloaded Rhythm Box from the Ubuntu Software Center, even though they didn't have that red circle image to the left. Fortunately they were written in plain 'enough' English so that I could understand sufficiently what they might accomplish. I'm playing a CD now and the radio works too. Thank you so much for your help and your commitment. It meant a lot to me. You are a winner! Sincerely, Doug I don't want to mess with the input terminal at this time. What do you think?

Status in “alsa-driver” package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: I'm a novice to computers and Linux. Have the latest version of Ubuntu which I down-loaded a few days ago. The Rhythm box player was working fine when I first used it. As I said I added some GStreamer components which than caused the Rhythm box not to work and then I undid them. The real player still doesn't work. I really didn't know what I was doing!
