Ah, yes - if photos have no EXIF date then Shotwell won't place them in any event at all. In the trunk, we've improved the situation: there's a No Event item in the sidebar which you can use to access all such photos. That will also be in the upcoming 0.8 release, of course. So I think we should mark this Launchpad bug as fixed.
