It is strange indeed. Anything in dmesg or syslog that hints at any error related to cpufreq/acpi? As a last resort try uninstalling/reinstalling or upgrading your kernel....... If worst come to the worst I'm afraid you have to raise the issue with the kernel people (http://kernel.org).
