I'm sorry, I did not intend to imply that the OSS emulation is a problem. I just wasn't aware that that is what alsa was doing, and that's why /dev/dsp doesn't exist. I just would like my microphone to work.
I ran the following commands and restarted my computer: sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-audio-dev/ppa sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install linux-alsa-driver-modules-$(uname -r) I am however still unable to record any sound.
