I've found a way on how to get around this bug.
I'm using Ubuntu 10.10.

1. Log into a ftp-server in Nautilus.
2. Drag a folder on the ftp-server to the top (or bottom panel).
3. Right click on the newly created shortcut and choose "Preferences".
4. Change the "place" from "ftp://example.org/folder"; to "ftp://example.org"; or
another sub-directory and click "Close".
5. If you want to can drag the shortcut to the desktop or the left panel in
Nautilus. It's up to you.

I hope that was useful.
